My doctor said I should reduce my sodium, so I stopped adding salt to my food. Is this enough?

My doctor told me to do the same thing, and we discussed that adding salt to my food was probably the least of it. I started reading labels on store-bought food and I was shocked at how much is in it. I was eating over about a cup and a half of "healthy" cottage cheese for breakfast each day only to discover that 1/2 cup has 430mg of sodium. My small healthy breakfast was giving me over half of the max daily sodium my doc had recommended.
