Position Purpose

The MSM Prevention Specialist is responsible for providing direct prevention education services and outreach in Northeast to individuals engaging in high risk behaviors such as men who have sex with men and partners of men who have sex with men. In addition, this position will provide anonymous and confidential counseling and testing for HIV, hepatitis C and syphilis.

Scope of Responsibilities

The AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW) is one of the nation’s largest providers of HIV prevention, care and treatment services with a budget approaching $100 million and more than 225 employees. The unique, nationally recognized ARCW HIV Medical Home model of care assures that everyone with HIV has access to medical, dental, mental health and social services and provides the best opportunity for patients to achieve high quality health outcomes. ARCW also provides aggressive HIV preventions services to gay men, injection drug users and others at the highest risk for HIV infection.

ARCW operates in the states of Wisconsin and Colorado, embraces a Market Culture to increase access to care, enhance quality outcomes and achieve and surpass financial performance expectations and has an aggressive plan to expand into additional states.


Position Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach (including Internet outreach) and distribute safer sex materials to persons engaging in high risk behaviors.
  • Recruit, train and supervise program volunteers.
  • Provide anonymous/confidential HIV, HCV and syphilis counseling and testing services following all agency and state protocols.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports and statistics and submit them to supervisor on a regular basis.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with area professionals and community-based organizations and provide consultation/trainings as needed.
  • Assess program participant’s needs and provide appropriate referrals.
  • Collaborate with and provide support for behavioral health, case management and food services (providing office coverage when needed, greeting clients, assisting with case managed clients when asked, providing food pantry services when needed, providing needle exchange services and all other duties as requested) in the Green Bay office.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Implement special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Very effective and practical organizational skills.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
  • Has an Insurable Driving Record
  • Access to a reliable insured vehicle
  • Position has a high potential for exposure to infectious materials.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time (2+hours)
  • Pre-employment & Annual TB Test
  • Annual Influenza vaccination
  • Ability to type along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows.
